Seven Stories Built Into the Mountain
The Basin Park Hotel occupies a unique position in Eureka Springs — built directly into the hillside in 1905, every floor of the seven-story structure opens at ground level on a different street. It is one of the most architecturally unusual hotels in the country, and according to a steady stream of guests and investigators, one of the most paranormally active.
Unlike the Crescent, the Basin Park's haunted reputation is quieter, more personal. There are no famous tragedies attached to the building, no documented deaths that explain the activity. What investigators find here tends to be subtle — things moving, lights behaving strangely, the persistent sense of being watched in the third-floor hallway.
The third floor in particular draws consistent reports. Guests in rooms 307 through 310 describe cowboy-type apparitions standing near their beds. The hallway itself has been the site of multiple shadow figure sightings. Room 306, while quieter than its neighbors, has its own documented history — including a firsthand account from this archive.
The third floor hallway at the Basin Park has a weight to it that's hard to describe. You feel it the moment the elevator doors open.
